Vocab - Novel 5k: This is a trimmed list from the original 230k raw result. Tether Group creates groups of 500 kanji. Kanji - Novel 5k: The Tether Order is the main sorting. If you don't like that, the source and instance data rows can be used to resort quickly. The logic behind this is to lower impact of frequently used words in few sources (like the name of a main character in a book series) or variant kanji used due to a author quirks. The lower ranking of either was used as the "raw tether" to create the "tether ranking". With this Novel 5k data, I created a "tethered" or "optimal" rank for vocab and kanji where the "frequency ranking" (total number of times a vocab/kanji appeared) and "source ranking" (total number of books a vocab/kanji appeared) are compared. The older spreadsheet shared had more problems that I was comfortable with, so I set about to improve it. History: As explained in the Kanji Top 6 post a few months back, user DMg scanned a collected list of 5000 Japanese novels which include data on frequency and number of unique sources both kanji and vocabulary appeared in the novels. /r/JapanResidents (for people who live in Japan only). To create furigana in your posts, use the following syntax: (#fg "かんじ") Whether you're a beginner or an expert in the Japanese Language, our index of resources might come in handy.
